I've always loved handwritten letters. I save them, treasure them, and find myself returning to them years later. Some hold the simplest words, while others offer glimpses into lives and stories I might never have known.

One of my favorite keepsakes is a little note I wrote to my husband on our honeymoon, on stationery from the Four Seasons Hotel. It simply says, “I love you my darling husband, Love Always, Mrs. Howard.” It was the first time I signed my name that way, the first time I called him my husband in writing. Forty years later, I still have it.

Over the years, I've collected letters from my school days, handwritten recipes from my grandmother, and old family correspondence that brings the people who came before me to life. Each reminds me that we never really know which words will become the ones we treasure.

I consider myself letter-blessed. I've been fortunate to receive and keep words from people I love, along with glimpses into the lives of people I'll never have the chance to know. These letters remind me that handwriting is more than a way to communicate. It is a little piece of a person, preserved on paper.

In a world where so much happens instantly and words can be generated with a click, taking the time to write by hand feels increasingly precious. A handwritten letter doesn't have to be long or eloquent. It simply has to come from you.
